Dhunot Student Scholarship and Mentorship Program

"A project to provide educational support to meritorious but financially challenged students"

Opportunity should not have any border. If talents of rural schools can be nurtured properly with financial support and adequate guidance, they can become successful in their own lives and uplift the socio-economic status of their own families and their locality in general. This is a pilot program targeted to pick rural talents with recommendation from school teachers and guide them through their higher secondary program. This educational program extends support to economically disadvantaged meritorious students of Dunot Upozilla to help them in their struggle to achieve educational excellence. Individual donors based in the USA sponsor this program.

Project Details

In 2001 SpaandanB started this program by sponsoring two students of Dhunot upozilla, one male and one female. Boosted by the support, Jamal, son of a landless farmer and Maliha, coming from an economically disadvantaged family, both got A in the Secondary School Certificate examination. Inspired by the initial success, six more underprivileged but meritorious students were picked later. Out of all eight students brought under this program, 60% showed spectacular performance. A number of them, admitted at very prestigious universities in Bangladesh and studying medicine, science and engineering.

The selection criterion for scholarship are -

The students should be in the top 5 students of their class in grade 6 to grade 10. For students who already appeared in SSC examination should have A+.

Students need to be economically disadvantaged

Students should secure good recommendations from their teachers

This program provides $10-$20 per month as scholarship for secondary and higher secondary level students. For college level students, the scholarship amount is $20-$30 per month.

The local co-ordinator verifies all the information before selection, collects teachers feedbacks and monitors the progress. The payment of scholarship is made on a monthly basis. If any tudent needs special attention in any subject, coaching is provided.
