Chamanara Scholarship

A regional scholarship program for rural students of grade 6 to grade 10

In Bangladesh, many talented rural students remain under-nurtured due to lack of proper assistance. Being situated in a socio-economically disadvantaged area, in many cases they belong to families having very less income for regular sustenance. Educational expenses become a huge burden for them. However, a small help can give them necessary boost to flourish academically. Chamanara Scholarship program just aims at doing that. It is a stipend program to provide monetary scholarships to rural students who are studying in middle school or junior high school (from grade 6 to 10).

Scholarship Details

The Chaman Ara Scholarship, managed by SpaandanB in Bangladesh, is dedicated to empowering talented rural students who face financial barriers in their educational journey. Launched in 2004 at Islampur Multi-lateral High School in Raipura Upozilla, Narsingdi District, the program initially provided eight annual scholarships to students in grades 7 through 10, each valued at Tk 4,000.

In 2014, the scholarship program broadened its reach and refined its selection process. It now conducts an annual examination for students in grades 6 to 10 from various local schools. This exam assesses competencies in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, and General Knowledge. The top 10 achievers from each grade receive scholarships, with award amounts typically structured as follows:

• Grade 6: Tk 3,000 for each of 10 scholarships

• Grade 7: Tk 3,000 for each of 10 scholarships

• Grade 8: Tk 3,500 for each of 10 scholarships

• Grade 9: Tk 3,500 for each of 10 scholarships

• Grade 10: Tk 4,000 for each of 10 scholarships

Please note that the scholarship amounts are not fixed and may vary from year to year, depending on available funding and other considerations.

This merit-based approach ensures transparency and fosters a competitive spirit among students, promoting academic excellence. The scholarship is sustained through a private fund, which is invested to generate annual interest, allowing the program to operate independently of additional financial contributions.

By alleviating the educational expenses of rural students, the Chaman Ara Scholarship plays a vital role in helping them achieve their academic and personal potential.
