Golap Kha Shishu Sadon

Providing vital food, shelter, healthcare, and educational support to orphans and underprivileged children at Golap Kha Shishu Sadon in Nageshwari, Kurigam.

Golap Kha Shishu Sadon was born from a touching moment of compassion in 1999, when a destitute, mentally challenged mother appeared at Bilkis Banu’s doorstep begging for food with a tiny, helpless child in her arms. Moved to tears and unable to turn away, Bilkis welcomed the vulnerable child into her family home, raising her alongside her own children with a mother’s unconditional love. That single act of mercy sparked a lifelong calling to open her doors and heart to society’s most forgotten orphans.

Officially established as a dedicated home in 2009 with 13 children, it has grown to shelter and educate 75 vulnerable boys and girls. Sharp increases in living and food expenses created severe budget shortfalls, jeopardizing the children’s health, living conditions, and schooling.

Deeply moved by the shelter’s dedication during an in-person visit, long-time SpaandanB donor and SpaandanB U.S. advisor Dr. Raquib Khan witnessed firsthand both the incredible care being provided and the strains of their budget shortfall. Compelled to take action, he and his wife, Samia Ara, consulted with their family to find a lasting way to protect these vulnerable children. Knowing SpaandanB’s active encouragement of donor-initiated projects, they stepped forward with a proposal to sustain Golap Kha Shishu Sadon. Through this heartfelt family commitment, the partnership with SpaandanB was officially born.

Through this initiative, SpaandanB provides critical recurring operational funding to stabilize the home, prevent malnutrition, maintain safe dormitories, and keep these young residents in school, shielding them from exploitation and neglect.

Core Objectives:
  • Fund monthly food rations to combat childhood malnutrition and improve dietary health.
  • Subsidize essential healthcare, hygiene items, and urgent medical treatments.
  • Cover educational supplies, books, uniforms, school fees, and tutoring costs.
  • Provide targeted capital upgrades for children’s bedding, bathroom sanitation, and living quarters.

Implementation & Governanace:
  • SpaandanB’s Dhaka office oversees fund disbursement on a scheduled monthly basis.
  • Local coordination and technical oversight are guided by Prof. Dr. Ashiqur Rahman (BUET) in close partnership with the shelter administration.
  • Project leadership submits periodic expense audits, photographic records of facility upgrades, and children’s welfare updates to verify operational accountability.
